The word “advent” means “arrival” or “coming” and it’s a time for us to spiritually prepare for the birth of Jesus at Christmas.

Join us for our annual tradition of Lessons and Carols!

Invite your friends & neighbors as all of our locations come together to experience this modern take on the classic tradition and to celebrate the wonder and hope of the Christmas story told through music and scripture.

Thursday, December 6 & Friday, December 7 | 7 PM
Park Near North

The show starts at 7, but doors open at 6, so come early and enjoy some snacks and activities in the cafe. Stick around afterwards for a Hot Chocolate Bar and Dessert Potluck to follow the show.

*Childcare will be provided on Thursday night ONLY for children 3 and under on a first-come-first-serve basis - with no pre-registration required.

Renew Chicago will also be hosting a Coat Drive during our annual Lessons and Carols Event!

Join us in blessing some of our ministry partners by donating winter jackets. You can drop them off in the Park Cafe before or after Lessons & Carols.

The Jesse Tree is an Advent tradition dating back to the medieval period. The name comes from Isaiah, who prophesied about a descendant of Jesse, the father of David:

There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.
— Isaiah 11:1

This “branch” or “tree” refers to Jesus. Throughout this Advent season, we will prepare for his birth at Christmas each day, by tracing the story of Jesus from the Old Testament prophecies all the way to his birth both in our sermons and through our online Advent Devotional. Sign up for an individual or family devotional below.
