A family of interdependent churches.

The Jesse Tree for Families: Day 4

THE PROMISE

Genesis 12:1-7, 15:1-6
A man named Abraham was living peacefully at home with his family, in a land he’d always known, with a clear vision of his future. He understood what his path in life was. He knew his future, and was eager for it. Abraham was set. But then came something he never could have believed. God spoke directly to Abraham, changing his plans and his future and calling him to something he did not understand. Abraham was chosen by God to be the father of God’s people, the nation of Israel. God promised Abraham that a great and powerful nation would be made from his family. “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them. So shall your offspring be.” Abraham believed God’s promise and for his belief, his faith, God counted Abraham as righteous. Abraham’s faith pleased God because when God spoke, Abraham listened and believed.

Family Thoughts

When God makes a promise, He never breaks it. In Abraham’s story, God made a very special promise to him. He promised that he would have a really big family and that his family would be a blessing to the whole world. Many years later, through that same family, God sent us Jesus! Jesus is the blessing promised to Abraham.

Family Connect

Name a time when you did the right thing, even when it was super hard to do.

Pause to pray

Pray as a family remembering His promises and for strength to obey Him, even when it is hard.
