The Jesse Tree for Families: 16

THE BURDEN OF HOLINESS

Isaiah 6:1-7; 11:1-9

Isaiah found himself in a smoke-filled room with trembling floors and flying angels shouting about God’s holiness and glory, he was in the throne room of God. And God was sitting on the throne. With all of this happening, Isaiah was overwhelmed.

His response to being so near to God’s holiness was, “Woe is me!” As he stood before the perfect holiness of God, his own sin so clear before him, his only response was to assume his own doom. And his instincts were right, because Isaiah was guilty before God, as we all are.

And yet in God’s kindness, He took away Isaiah’s guilt and cleansed him. He did this so Isaiah could become his messenger. He sent Isaiah with a very important message, one about a King who was coming to take away the sins of the world.

Family Thoughts

Just as the burning coal cleaned Isaiah, Jesus is our burning coal who cleanses the unclean of their sin and shame. We can go before God not in fear but in peace and confidence. He then sends us out to share the important message with our friends and family that the King has come, this King is Jesus!

Family Connect

After Isaiah met with God, he was sent out with a message about God. The same is true for us today, we are sent out by God with His message. What do you think God wants you to say? What can you tell your friends about Jesus?

Pause to pray

Pray as a family thanking Him for providing a way to wash our sins clean, by the blood of the Lamb, Jesus Christ.
