The Jesse Tree for Families: Day 23

JESUS KNOWS ME

Matthew 1:18-25

Mary was engaged to be married to Joseph. He was part of King David’s family, the family that God had promised to send His Savior through. Joseph was a humble carpenter, but there was so much more to him. Joseph was chosen by God to be Jesus’ earthly father.

When Joseph found out that Mary was going to have a baby, he planned to walk away from her, because the baby wasn’t theirs together. Until the angel of the Lord came to him saying,

“Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins."

Thankfully, Joseph believed the angel, trusted God, and married Mary.

Family Thoughts

Mary gave birth to a boy they named Jesus, which means “salvation.” This Son would be the long-awaited Messiah. He would be “God with us,” just like the prophet Isaiah had said, “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14). Jesus would save us from our sins.

Joseph obeyed God and was the earthly father who God had set apart to bring the Savior into the world. God promised a Savior from the family of King David, from where Joseph came. Jesus is the trustworthy promise keeper.

Family Connect

Sometimes God gives us things that might be difficult or hard to do. In order to do these things, we need to fully trust God. Can you remember something you had to do that might have been hard, but God helped you through it?

Pause to pray

Pray as a family that God would help you to trust Him more and to handle these things well.
