The Jesse Tree for Families: Day 24

THE COMEDY OF GRACE

Matthew 2:1-12

Some time after Jesus was born there were others who came to worship Him. These wise men were Gentiles, meaning they were not of Jewish descent. They traveled a long distance from their homes in search of the “King of the Jews” (Matthew 2:2). A star in the sky led their way, echoing a prophecy found in the book of Numbers:

“A star shall come out of Jacob, and a scepter shall rise out of Israel.”

Numbers 24:17
They had seen and followed a star that God had placed in the sky.

When they found Jesus as a child, they rejoiced, fell down, and worshipped him, ready to shower Him with gifts perfect for a King and a Savior. This new baby, this long awaited King was a gift to the whole world.

Family Thoughts

God made this clear—the King was born and He came to save not just the Israelites, but all people. This King is Jesus, who is our hope and our salvation.

The kingdom of Jesus would be significantly different from any other kingdom on earth; its citizens would not be defined by their country of origin, but by their humble obedience and worship of Jesus, the one True King.

God’s promised plan had been revealed to these men and they worshiped Jesus, God’s promised Savior.

Family Connect

Picture yourself being one of the people who found Jesus by following the star. What kind of feeling would you have seeing Jesus for the first time? How can you worship Jesus today?

Pause to pray

Pray as a family for missionaries, for their peace and safety as they sow the seeds of the Gospel amongst the nations. Pray they know God’s presence as they are far from family, and may they be used as stars leading many to Christ.
