The Jesse Tree: Day 25

THE SON OF GOD

In the beginning, when God spoke into the darkness, light shone, and all of creation came into being. And yet, soon humanity fell and darkness reigned over us, around us, and in us. But today we celebrate that God stepped into our sinful and broken world.

History hinges on the moment when a baby was born so that a weary world can now rejoice.

Behold, Jesus, our Emmanuel, God with us, has come. The one through whom the world was made was born for our salvation. This is what every person, poem, and prophecy pointed to all along.
Jesus is the future son of Eve that would crush the head of the serpent.
Jesus is the ark that saves us from the flood.
Jesus is the blessing promised to Abraham.
Jesus is the sacrificial lamb that Isaac searched for on the mountain.
Jesus is the ladder from Jacob’s vision, connecting and reconciling us with our heavenly father.
Jesus is our protector and provider.
Jesus is I AM who spoke to Moses, who delivers us from slavery.
Jesus is the passover lamb, whose blood takes away the sins of the world.
Jesus is the fulfillment of the law given to Moses.
Jesus is the trumpet that brings down the walls of sin and hostility in our hearts.
Jesus is the hero, like Gideon, whose strength was made visible by his weakness.
Jesus is the king whose reign would have no end.
Jesus is the humble shepherd who protects his people.
Jesus is God’s response in a world of unresponsive gods.
Jesus is the burning coal who cleanses the unclean of their sin and shame.
Jesus is the justice and mercy foreseen by Jeremiah and Habakkuk.
Jesus is the peace and safety longed for by Nehemiah.
Jesus is the reason for the joy and hope of Mary, Elizabeth, and all who follow him.
Jesus is the horn of our salvation.
Jesus is the one for whom John the Baptist prepared a way.
Jesus is the trustworthy promise-keeper.
Jesus is the only one who deserves all worship and honor.
Jesus is the Lord over all creation.
Jesus is our hope and our salvation.
Jesus is the light of the world.
Jesus is our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Prince of Peace, and Eternal Father.

This is why we celebrate Advent. This is why we celebrate Christmas. Oh come let us adore the King of Kings!

Pause to reflect

Pray a prayer of thanksgiving for the gift of Jesus, the Savior of the world.
