The Jesse Tree for Families: Day 1

CREATION
In the beginning, God was already there. He was perfect and good, full and complete. He didn’t need anything more than what He already had. But this was just the beginning!
God created everything in the entire universe—the sun, moon, and stars. The mountains, valleys, and trees. And everything else that flies in the sky, walks on the land, and swims in the sea!
But of all of His creation, one thing in particular, was the crown jewel. There was one thing He loved and cared for in a way that was unlike anything else.
People!
God did something very special when he made man. God didn’t make man like he did all the other creatures he made. He breathed his very breath into the nose of the shape he had made and the shape came alive! God called him Adam. And then he made Eve from one of the ribs of Adam. Adam and Eve were the very first people who ever lived.

Family Thoughts
Humanity’s task was to oversee creation, to cultivate and enjoy its flourishing. Unfortunately, we failed. And the result was suffering for all of humanity and creation. The poppies and worms, the streaking comets and roasting chestnuts—they suffer because of humanity’s failure.
But not without hope.
Which is why the herald star cried aloud in the night sky, shining in brilliant proclamation, about this newborn king in Bethlehem. Which is why the sheep, as well as the shepherds, were the recipient audience of that heavenly host, the angel choir singing to the glory of this newborn king. Which is why those crowding the delivery room, that tumbledown old stable, were not kings and emperors but horses and donkeys and livestock. Trying to catch a glimpse of hope’s arrival, that newborn king, Jesus Christ.
And in the same way, still, creation longs for His return. To quote the Apostle Paul:

Family Connect
Creation is filled with so many good things for us? What is your favorite thing God has created that you are thankful for?

Pause to pray
Pray as a family thanking God for all of creation and all that God has given life to. Thank God for your lives, the lives He has created in His image. Ask God for help to not only care for His creation well, but to help you love and obey Him in order to be the little girl or boy He created you to be.
