The Jesse Tree for Families: Day 2

SEPARATION FROM GOD
Genesis 2:4-3:24
God created Adam and Eve, who were perfect and without sin.
God put Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden to work and keep it, to enjoy the world that He had given them. God told them they can eat fruit from all of the trees in the garden, except one. God commanded,
God created Adam and Eve, who were perfect and without sin.
God put Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden to work and keep it, to enjoy the world that He had given them. God told them they can eat fruit from all of the trees in the garden, except one. God commanded,
You may surely eat of every tree of the garden,
but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat,
for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.
but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat,
for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.
Genesis 2:16-17
Eating from this tree would be disobeying God and sinning against Him. Adam and Eve chose to eat from that tree and were sent away from the garden where they had walked and talked with God.

Family Thoughts
The Bible says that God is our good Father who loves us. One way he loves us is by giving us rules to live by, to listen to and obey. God gave Adam and Eve one rule - do not eat from this one tree. Listening to God and obeying that rule was a way for them to love God. But they did not listen and they broke God’s rule, eating the fruit and sinning against God. When Adam & Eve ate the fruit, sin entered their lives, sin entered into the world. They were immediately separated from God and we have all been separated from God because of their sin. We have an important need for a Savior to save us from our sin and bring us back to God. Christmas is all about God’s plan to send a Savior, the future Son of Eve, to rescue the world from sin. When Jesus comes, he begins a new creation where we can be forgiven for disobeying and be with God again.

Family Connect
Can you think of a time that you broke the rules? What made you do that? How did you feel when you got caught?

Pause to pray
Pray as a family, thanking Jesus for loving you even when you are not perfect, and also thank Jesus because he died on the cross so that you could be forgiven for your sin and never be separated from God again.
